Field notes
Files, folders, windows, and browsers reappear in thoughts and conversations. I started to download files and transfer them to USB. It is reassuring to build a personal archive. After watching Veronica Obenauer’s short video essay, I also want to customize file icons and develop desktop practices.

Weeks ago, I included the surreal tour and travel project File Life, where Elliott is in motion, receives peoples’ files, and reflects on his journey. But what is it really? That was a question some of you asked. If that was you, I’m pleased to inform you that you can now read about the background.
I guess the seed for the idea started when I was living in New York. I was just thinking about transporting files by foot, like walking through the city. I thought that would be a strange and interesting idea of file transfers that are mainly offline. — Elliott Cost
The internet is beautiful. It is full of heartfelt sites, caring people, and curios publishers. It was a pleasure writing this guide with Spencer. Fortunately, I’m also happy with how it turned out. Thanks to Julia and Gillian for making Syllabus; it is an entire walk on its own.
