Dear reader
On Wednesday, I’m hosting a Screenwalks.
I’ll lead a behind-the-scenes tour of Diagram Website, the incomplete internet map I made with Elliott Cost. During the session, I’ll introduce how we made the map, show early drafts and reflect on the necessity of drawing a map to get lost. I’ll also perform website readings, impromptu interviews and update the diagram.
In other words, we’ll celebrate the internet and all the poetry growing through its cracks. I’m 10/10 excited.
With care
Kristoffer

Field notes
1.
Special.fish is open for new members. It is a model social network site.
2.
»Here’s how a well-intentioned search engine decays: First, a novel algorithm is developed. It’s effective at helping people find what they are looking for, so they begin to rely on it. Then, the owners of the websites that are being found notice the search engine sending them traffic. They investigate or otherwise toy with the algorithm to see if they can appear higher in the rankings.« — Elan Ullendorff in Beyond the search engine.
3.
Are.na is gifting essays from its annual print publication. Read, for example, Terry Nguyen’s extraordinary reflection on reviving the deceased through the case of deep fake Bruce Lee videos or Sean Catangui’s introduction to Algorithmic Botany.
4.
Willa Köerner is a writer I follow closely. This week, she launched Dark Properties, »a newsletter-based quest to illuminate transformative possibilities for life on earth.« The first edition is a promising and intimate essay about chronic insomnia.
5.
Screenwalks with Kristoffer (that’s me) on Wednesday. The 7th is also the deadline for sending submissions to the Leap Day Newsletter. For more calendar recommendations see the Poetic Web Calendar.
